ABOUT ERIK FOUNDATION

Erik Foundation is non-governmental organization (NGO) registered in Tanzania Mainland under registration number 00NGO/R/9530, with its office located in Sinza Mori, Kinondoni District, Dar es Salaam Region, Tanzania.

Erik Foundation was founded by Isack Nyasilu, in collaboration with his friends, with the purpose of honoring the life, values, ideas, and vision of Erik Martin Gregory, who dedicated his life to promoting access to education and community development in different countries.

THE LEGACY OF ERIK MARTIN GREGORY

During his lifetime, Erik Martin Gregory participated in various education-related initiatives across Africa, including in United Republic of Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa, and Morocco, where he promoted access to education and supported initiatives aimed at improving people’s lives through education.

Erik firmly believed that education is fundamental foundation of human life. He also strongly emphasized the importance of vocational education and skills training for people who, due to different circumstances and challenges, were unable to access formal education.

During the period when Erik was supporting Isack Nyasilu in his education, Erik shared words of encouragement and wisdom that have continued to inspire the work of Erik Foundation. Erik said:

“I have no greater gift to give you than to support your education, from your Form six studies until you teach the point of where you feel it is enough. Education is extremely important for every human being. If it were my choice, education would be free everywhere in the world. When a person lacks education, they face a major disadvantage in the struggle to build a better life. Study hard, Isack, so that one day you can empower your family and your community, and most importantly, contribute to your country by becoming a knowledgeable leader if the opportunity arises.”

These words have become an important part of the inspiration and philosophy behind Erik Foundation.

THE ESTABLISHMENT OF ERIK FOUNDATION 

Following the passing of Erik Martin Gregory, Isack Nyasilu resolved to carry forward Erik’s ideas, values, and vision regarding the importance of education. Isack worked together with friends and other like-minded individuals and, through their shared commitment, established Erik Foundation as an organization dedicated to preserving Erik’s legacy by creating educational opportunities for children, young people, and other members of society.

Although Erik Foundation is authorized to operate across all regions of Mainland Tanzania, the Foundation has initially begun implementing its activities in the following regions:

• Morogoro
• Tanga
• Pwani
• Katavi
• Rukwa
• Mtwara

At Erik Foundation, we believe that every human being deserves access to quality education and opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills that enable them to overcome life’s challenges.

We believe that improving education requires collaboration among Government, communities, educational stakeholders, civil society organizations and private sector.

Through such partnership, we believe we can create better educational opportunities for children, young people, and adults who have been unable to access education due to various social and economic challenges.
